Preston is a technology and public policy professional with a background in government, communications, public affairs and computer programming. As the Director of TechSC, he launched and leads South Carolina’s largest statewide technology organization, aimed at accelerating growth and innovation while providing a unified voice for the statewide technology community. TechSC is focused on developing a strong 21st Century workforce, supporting entrepreneurs, connecting peers and decision makers, and establishing South Carolina as a global hub for innovation.
In addition, Preston is currently pursuing a Masters in Computer Science with an emphasis on Cybersecurity. He has worked at all levels of government and consulted for some of the country's largest companies on policy issues and communications strategy.
He previously served as the Sr. Manager of Public Policy Communications for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). In this role he worked closely with the state and federal government affairs teams to promote their advocacy efforts and communicate with elected officials and grassroots leaders regarding technology policy.
Prior to CompTIA, Preston served as the lead expert at the Public Affairs Council on traditional, digital, social and paid communication methods used in grassroots, advocacy and public affairs campaigns. He was the primary contact to the public affairs community on best practices and emerging trends in these areas. Before joining the Council, Preston served as the Communications Director for Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio, chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces.
In 2010, Preston founded and managed Stonewall Strategies, a lobbying and public affairs firm in South Carolina which represented a variety of corporate and association clients throughout the state. The firm assisted numerous clients on statewide grassroots issue and advocacy campaigns.
Preston began his career and spent nearly a decade on the staff of Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina, where he successfully managed three re-election campaigns as well as held a variety of positions in his official offices.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Preston graduated with a bachelor of arts in Public Relations from the University of South Carolina.
