Preston is a technology and public policy professional with a background in government, communications, public affairs and computer programming currently pursuing a Masters in Computer Science with an emphasis on Cybersecurity. Preston has worked at all levels of government and consulted for some of the country's largest companies on policy issues and communications strategy.
He currently serves as the Sr. Manager of Public Policy Communications for the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). In this role he works closely with the state and federal government affairs teams to promote their advocacy efforts and communicate with elected officials and grassroots leaders regarding technology policy.
Prior to CompTIA, Preston served as the lead expert at the Public Affairs Council on traditional, digital, social and paid communication methods used in grassroots, advocacy and public affairs campaigns. He was the primary contact to the public affairs community on best practices and emerging trends in these areas. He advised PAC members on tactics for improving internal communication structures that allow public affairs teams and communications teams to work more effectively towards effective campaigns.
Before joining the Council, Preston served as the Communications Director for Congressman Mike Turner of Ohio, chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, where he handled all communication needs, including press inquiries, media strategy, story pitches, speechwriting and social media.
In 2010, Preston founded and managed Stonewall Strategies, a lobbying and public affairs firm in South Carolina which represents a variety of corporate and association clients in the State. The firm assists numerous clients on statewide grassroots issue and advocacy campaigns.
Preston began his career in 2001 on the staff of Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina, where he successfully managed three re-election campaigns as well as held a variety of positions in his official offices.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Preston graduated with a bachelor of arts in Public Relations from the University of South Carolina. He is currently pursuing his Master's in Computer Science at the College of Charleston.
